One cable slipping off its drum groove is enough to jam a door mid-cycle or send a panel crashing at an angle. We fix the cable and check why it slipped in the first place.
When one lift cable fails, the other has seen the same wear cycle. We replace both to prevent a repeat call.
Cable replacement without a drum check is an incomplete repair, so we always look at both.
Lift cables connect directly to spring-loaded drums, so replacement requires the same careful tension handling as spring work.
A same-day fix is standard for cable failures, parts already on the truck.
Each service below is handled by a technician trained specifically for this kind of repair, not a generalist guessing at it.
We replace the snapped cable and its pair, then verify even tension across both sides.
Fraying cable strands are a warning sign of imminent failure. We replace before it snaps and drops the door unexpectedly.
A cable that's jumped its drum groove can jam the door mid-cycle. We reset it correctly and check for the underlying cause.
Worn or cracked cable drums get replaced alongside the cable itself, since a damaged drum will fray the next cable too.
Correcting an uneven lean means addressing the cable, checking the spring pair, and confirming the track is still square.
A quick description of the lean or jam gets the right cable gauge loaded before arrival.
Technicians carry standard cable gauges and lengths for most residential doors.
We check both cables and the drums together, then quote a flat price covering the full fix.
We verify the door hangs and travels evenly before calling the repair complete.
“Door was hanging at an angle after a cable snapped. They replaced both cables and it's perfectly level now.”
“Caught the fraying cable during a routine call before it actually snapped. Appreciated the heads-up.”
“Same-day fix on a Saturday, cable stock right there on the truck.”
This almost always means one lift cable or spring has failed while the other side is still holding weight.
We recommend replacing both since they wear on the same cycle, and we'll explain the reasoning before you decide.
We treat cable failures as priority calls given the safety risk involved.
We check the drum groove condition whenever a cable keeps coming off, since replacing just the cable won't fix a bad drum.
Cost varies with door size and whether one or both cables and drums need attention.
Most cable replacements are completed same-day, typically within one to two hours once the technician arrives.
